Our First Spoken Word!

On July 26th, the Holistic and Liberatory Peer Reentry Team hosted CTJC’s first ever spoken word! The event was held to give space for our system-impacted community to share and express original art with one another. For some that got on the mic, it was their first time ever performing for an audience. Experienced performers said that they felt inspired by hearing from others. Our incarcerated community also participated by sending in recordings of their poems, which were played for the room to hear. It was a healing night for everyone that was there, and we’ve heard that folks are eagerly awaiting the next one!

Performers stood in front of the One Mic banner by Nicholas "Red" Haselrig and several other artists from the Dixon Performing Arts (DPA) program.
