Therapy & Holistic Healing

The CTJC clinical team offers individual, family, and group counseling from the Center’s Politicized Healing and community counseling framework. Our counseling program addresses the wounds created by state-sponsored violence.

Individual Counseling

Our individual counseling practice consists of therapeutic techniques which center our philosophy of Politicized Healing of first and secondary race-based trauma caused by state violence and incarceration. We understand that for those healing from trauma, physically getting to an appointment with a clinician in an unfamiliar space creates a barrier to treatment. Our Community Counseling model responds by truly meeting individuals where they are—in homes and neighborhood settings that work best for them to engage with the process. Our clinical team specializes in facilitating Politicized Healing through modalities such as Family Systems Therapy, Psychodynamics, Narrative Therapy, and the Community Counseling Model.

Support Groups

The Center’s clinical staff facilitate a number of support groups for survivors of police violence and their family members. These groups fall under two styles of community engagement: psychoeducational groups and group therapy sessions. Through these groups we are able to reach large numbers of people and provide networks of healing directly in the community.

Art Therapy

We offer art therapy as a way to help participants interpret, express & understand their emotions and thoughts through a variety of mediums. CTJC’s art therapist works with participants to create an alternative place to focus attention and build new practices that can serve as a support in their healing. The focus of art therapy is not about making an objectively good piece of art, but about the emotional process of creating.
